On spotting his father being assaulted by Vichare, Dhuri's son Kamlesh (24) bludgeoned Vichare on the head repeatedly with a steel pot. Vichare was severely injured and was rushed to Kokilaben Ambani Hospital in Andheri for treatment.
The police later arrested members of the Dhuri family, despite locals citing that Vichare was a menace for residents and that the Dhuris were facing criminal action for a noble act.

According to police, none of the Dhuri family members have a criminal history. They were courteous with their neighbours. On the other hand, Vichare has more than 15 cases including theft, housebreaking, cheating and assault registered against him at several police stations. He was externed by the police thrice, and was in the city limits at the time of the incident.

According to Vakola police, Vichare had turned up to meet his girlfriend Mumtaz early on Monday morning. After spending three hours with her, Vichare left and began banging on the Dhuris' front door. When Ramakant opened the door, Vichare began assaulting him, while Dhuri's son and wife tried to defend him in vain. Infuriated by the sight of his father being beaten, Kamlesh took a steel water pot and bashed Vichare's head several times, who subsequently collapsed.

Vichare is allegedly closely associated with a builder, who admitted the former at Ambani hospital and has been paying all his medical bills. Police said Vichare's condition was very critical and that he required a ventilator, while doctors said that chances of his survival are very low.

Senior police inspector Rajendra Singh Pardesi of Vakola police station said, "We have arrested Ramakant Dhuri along with his son Kamlesh and wife Trupti in an attempt-to-murder case. The victim in is an externed criminal and has several cases against him. Further investigations are on."u00a0
