An Emirates flight from Dubai that was on its way to Aidelaide had to make an emergency landing at Mumbai's International airport after a passenger passed away on-board flight
An Emirates flight from Dubai that was on its way to Aidelaide had to make an emergency landing at Mumbai's International terminal after a passenger passed away on-board flight.
The passenger, a senior citizen of Australian nationality was examined by the on duty medical officer at Mumbai International Airport Pvt. Ltd. (MIAL) and was declared dead, the cause of death declared as cardiac arrest.
The flight EK 440 (Reg no -A6-EBV) landed at terminal 2 (T2) after and the body of the 60 year old passenger Peter Richard Brczni was taken to Cooper Hospital after clearing Immigration formalities.
A MIAL Spokesperson said, "The passenger collapsed while going to the washroom onboard flight, he was apparently bleeding from mouth and nose. An on board doctor, a co passenger declared him dead. "
After the formalities were complete, the pilot took the flight back to Dubai instead of Adelaide with 331 passengers and 20 crew members due to time restrictions at Adelaide airport.
"Though the flight departed at around 11.30am the body could be taken to the hospital around 12.30pm post immigration clearance," said an Airport Official.
AIRLINE SPEAKS
Emirates Spokesperson said "Emirates can confirm that EK440 from Dubai to Adelaide landed in Mumbai on 9th August at approximately 0730 IST due to a medical emergency. Since it was night time,and arrival/departure restrictions in Adelaide, the aircraft had to return back to Dubai. The passengers will be accommodated in hotels in Dubai and will re-board the delayed flight EK440/09Aug from Dubai to Adelaide at 23:00 tonight. We apologise for any inconvenience caused by the delay. The safety of our passengers and crew is of paramount importance."
