Eastern Express Highway FOBs between Sion and Mulund to get a facelift

A facelift is on the cards, for the foot overbridges (FOBs) on the Eastern Express Highway (EEH) between Sion and Mulund that are in not a good shape. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has decided to repair the FOBs, which, for lack of maintenance, have become derelict with uneven and broken tiles in several places, causing inconvenience to pedestrians and forcing them to cross the road.

Superintendent Engineer A P Nagargoje said, "FOBs on the EEH between Mulund check naka and Sion are in a bad shape. Last April, the PWD handed over the FOBs along with the road to us; so, we decided to fix them for pedestrians' comfort." On April 13, 2017, the Public Works Department (PWD) had handed over the EEH to the MMRDA. Earlier, the highway's, as well as FOBs', maintenance and repairs was PWD's job.

MMRDA has already invited tenders for the repairs. The authority expects to complete the repair work in a year at a cost of around Rs 1 crore. A total of 11 FOBs will be repaired; during the work, plastering of the outer walls of the FOBs will also be done. The other important works that will be done are repainting and installing crash barriers below the walls of the FOBs.
