Thought the 9-hour mega block at Diva for four Sundays was bad? Well, more bad news is on the anvil, as the Railways is contemplating a similar 10-hour mega block spread over 10 days between Diva and Dombivali. So even if the work at Diva is completed by October 23, the movement of fast trains between Kalyan and Thane will be hindered.
"The existing two lines between Diva and Kalyan, which is used by long-distance trains, are affected because of too many crossovers and alignment of tracks. This needs work and it can happen only through these mega blocks," said a senior CR official.
Sources added that the nature of the job is too huge as they have to ensure that the rail lines don't become too steep for the trains to run on and that it is straightened within the limited space there, thus requiring the long blocks.
