A 41-year-old man has been arrested by Dahisar police for allegedly raping an employee several times at various locations in Mumbai and adjoining Thane district.
The accused, Amin Poonawala, and the survivor were working together in a diaper and detergent business at Dahisar. The woman, a 32-year-old divorcee, was employed with the company for the past two years. She was married in 2003, but parted ways with her husband in 2005, and is now living with their two kids.
In August this year, Poonawala asked the woman to come along with him to Titwala on the pretext of working on a new project, claiming that they were going to set up a unit there. After spending a whole day, the accused asked his employee to stay with him in a guesthouse, promising that they would return to Mumbai the next morning.
Later that night, Poonawala raped her inside her room and made a video clipping, which he used to blackmail her. He threatened to circulate the footage among her relatives and her kids, if she did not continue a sexual liaison with him. Harassed and disconsolate, the woman narrated the whole incident to a male friend and, later, one her colleagues. Both asked her to lodge an FIR against Poonawala. She finally approached Dahisar police on Saturday, and a case was registered.
