While Mumbai's air quality has seen a improvement from an Air Quality Index (AQI) of Very Poor category to Poor, Chembur remained in Very Poor category even on Saturday.
According to the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research (SAFAR), a government body provides data about the AQI in Mumbai, Delhi and Pune, there are six AQI categories, namely Good + Satisfactory (0-100), Moderately polluted (101-200), Poor (201-300), Very Poor (301-400), and Severe (401-500).
In Mumbai, the AQI on Saturday at 2.31 pm was 282 and on Sunday it is expected to be 275. Since the fire at the Deonar dumping ground, the AQI of Mumbai has been over 300. While this has dropped across Mumbai, it remains over 300 in Chembur. SAFAR website states: "Everyone may experience health effects, avoid outdoor activity. It is advisable to use pollution masks.
