Dead dolphin washes ashore at Malad beach

A dead dolphin has washed ashore at a Malad beach on Monday.

The body of 7-feet long Indo-Pacific dolphin was found at the Dana-Pani beach in Malad west.

According to a volunteer, "The police officials attached with the Malvani police station were on their regular patrolling duty on Monday morning when they first located the dead dolphin which had washed ashore. They immediately informed the Mangroves Cell of the forest department which reached the spot immediately."

The officials have taken the body for post mortem so that the exact cause behind the death is known.

A volunteer -- Ankit Vyas -- who helps the forest department was present at the spot along with forest department official Sanjay Pagare of Mangroves cell along with the other staff was also present.

It should be noted that there have been quite a few incidents of the marine creature dying and their corpses being found on the sea shores across Mumbai and MMR region in last two years.

Till date 16 cases of dolphin deaths have been reported from various beaches in Mumbai and nearby areas since last year -- while 12 such cases were reported last year, four such instances have been witnessed so far this year with this one being the fifth.
