Thanks to the daytime road repair work executed by the Public Works Department (PWD) near the domestic airport yesterday, commuting on the southbound carriageway of the Western Express Highway (WEH) remained nightmarish for the entire day.

A few of the motorists, travelling via Dahisar, claimed they got stuck in the jam from Samata Nagar, Kandivli, itself.

"Usually, it takes 50 minutes for me to reach office - from Borivli to Parel. But yesterday it took almost two hours. Luckily, I ride to work. I'm sure that those travelling by cars must have remained stuck for longer durations. We understand that it is necessary to repair the roads, but why not do it post-midnight? The traffic flow is much lighter," said a motorist.
Traffic control
With major jams expected, traffic police constables were seen managing traffic at important junctions along the WEH. A traffic police constable, posted near the domestic airport flyover said, "Traffic woes started with the morning peak hours, and resurfacing by the PWD authorities was the main reason for this jam. There won't be any traffic issues once the final layer is applied."
Official speak
PWD Engineer, in-charge of WEH, said, "We are sorry for the inconvenience caused to the motorists, but the repair work will be concluded by tonight [Friday] after a final tar layer is given to the 130-meter-stretch that was repaired near the airport."
