Datta Padsalgikar, a Maharashtra-Cadre 1982-batch IPS officer, on Sunday took charge as the new Mumbai Police Commissioner.

Padsalgikar, who is the 40th police commissioner of the city, took over from Ahmad Javed who retires today. Ahmed will be India's Ambassador to Saudi Arabia.
