The first batch of dasheris from Lucknow and Valsad has started to arrive at the Agricultural Produce Market Committee in Vashi

As the season for alphonso mangoes approaches its end, a sweeter cultivar has started arriving at Vashi's APMC from Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat - Dasheri mangoes.

Dasheris are currently available at the Navi Mumbai wholesale market at a price of Rs 30-35 per kg

The variety, mostly grown in the northern states of the country, is currently available at the Navi Mumbai wholesale market at a price of Rs 30-35 per kg. However, if fruit traders are to be believed, once the supply increases, prices are expected to drop to Rs 20.

"The demand for dasheri mangoes, most of which comes from Lucknow and Valsad, is almost as much as alphonsos in the city. However, compared to alphonsos from Gujarat, the state's dasheris are preferred more as it has a sweeter taste," said Deepak Jaiswal, a fruit trader at APMC market.

Traders added that the demand for alphonsos drops once dasheris enter the market. At present, the alphonso produce from Gujarat is being sold at R100-200 per dozen in the wholesale market, and is expected to remain available for the next 10-15 days.

Sanjay Pansare, director of APMC fruit market, said, "The dasheri variety will be available till the month of July. Currently, around 10 to 15 trucks of the produce are arriving at the market every day, and the number is expected to increase in the coming days."
