In a freak accident, one man died while a woman sustained severe head injuries after the crane of an under construction building opposite Sewri T B Hospital broke loose and fell on a house. The woman was rushed to KEM Hospital and has been admitted in the emergency ward, where she remains critical. RA Kidwai Marg Police station in Sewri - under whose jurisdiction the incident took place- are investigating the matter.

While Savita Bhandare was having lunch, a huge piece of the crane fell through her roof and landed on her head. She was bleeding profusely.
The incident took place at around 1.30 pm. Savita Bhandare (50), a resident of the Shiv Sena Nagari opposite Sewri TB Hospital was having lunch. Just then, a huge piece of the crane fell through the roof of her house and crashed on her head. While her neighbours rushed to help, she crawled away from the spot and went to another room, where was found in a pool of blood.

The cranes working on an adjacent under construction building allegedly broke loose and their parts fell through the roof of the building. The individual working on the crane also succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead on arrival at KEM Hospital.

'No safety nets'
The residents of the colony said that they have been informing the builders about the debris that occasionally fall inside their premises but no safety nets or other facilities have been provided till date.

"All the politicians, who came to see the incident didn't even come to see the house where the incident took place. There are children playing here and it could have been fatal," said Sandip Jadhav, a resident.
