Court to decide fate of cop in Ramabai firing case today

An important judgement in the 1997 Ramabai Nagar firing case is expected today, a day before Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar's birth anniversary.


An important judgement in the 1997 Ramabai Nagar firing case is expected today, a day before Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar's birth anniversary.

Manohar Kadam, a State Reserve Police Force officer, was tried by the sessions court for allegedly ordering a Dalit mob protesting the desecration of Ambedkar's statue be fired upon.

Ten people died and several others were injured in the firing. Kadam was suspended following protests.

The Mumbai sessions court will decide the fate of Kadam today. Earlier, the Sewri fast-track court had framed charges against 10 people for rioting and attempt to murder.

The 10 accused have been booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code.
