A local court on Sunday came down heavily on Versova Police and a girl who had filed a false molestation case against her boyfriend in a fit of anger on Saturday.
When the police presented the accused in court seeking custody, the girl asked the judge to quash her FIR and that was when the judge told her to not waste the court's precious time and warned to take action against her. The accused was sent to two days' police custody.
Police officials said the accused Yasir Charolia (28), a resident of Jogeshwari, had met the girl (20) two years ago at Madh Jetty and they fell in love. The couple, along with Charolia's two friends, was at Versova beach on Saturday evening when they got into a heated argument and police had to intervene. All of them were drunk.
When spectators complained that Charolia was misbehaving with the girl, the cops took them to the police station, where the girl filed an FIR under Sections 354 (Assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and 506 (criminal intimidation) against her beau in a fit of anger.
Charolia arrested
Police arrested Charolia and asked the girl to go home. Minutes after taking the rash step, the girl asked PSI Sadanand Pote of Versova police station to quash her complaint. He refused, saying the court would decide the matter.
When Charolia was produced in the Bandra metropolitan magistrate court on Sunday, the advocate told the judge that the girl had something to say.
With the judge's permission, she told the court that the case was false and she wanted to take it back.
Judge slammed the cops
The judge got furious and asked her who had told her to come to court. Pote was absent but the officer on day duty was representing him. The judge slammed the police for irresponsible behaviour.
He then warned the woman to not waste the court's precious time and said that action could be taken against her too.
Charolia was remanded to police custody for two days by the judge.
