The 23-year-old woman from Mangalore, who was kidnapÂped by four people on December 17, while she was out for shopping in Vashi, has finally been reunited with her husbÂand. According to police souÂrces, her own family members kidnapped Reshma Ashok Kumar Kunil because she went against their wishes to marry Mankhurd resident Iqbal Mohammed Umar Chaudhary, 28. After it was established that Reshma's family was involved in her kidnapping, Iqbal filed a case in the high court. During a hearing in the case yesterday, the court allowed Reshma to live with Iqbal.
Reshma had befriended Iqbal on Facebook over seven years ago. After their friendship blossomed into a relationship, they got married in secret in July, last year. Iqbal, who works as an assistant engineer with a Navi Mumbai-based firm, had told mid-day, "In early July last year, I went to Mangalore and brought Reshma to Mumbai. She converted to Islam, and on July 15, we had a nikaah. While we were at a mall shopping on DeÂcÂember 17, Reshma's family members dragged her to a car and fled. I immediately approached the Vashi police."
Consequently, a case under sections 365 (kidnapping) and 34 (common intent) of the IPC was filed against four members of Reshma's family. A week later, Iqbal filed a petition in the high court.

In December last year, the court ordered Reshma's family to produce her in court.
"On December 22, Reshma was brought to the court. She told the judge that her father was involved in her kidnapping, but since her mother was unwell, she chose to return with her family. After several weÂeÂks, Reshma was again brought to court yesterday. When the court asked her whom she wished to live with, she chose to be with me," said Iqbal.
Iqbal added that the court has ordered the couple to get their marriage registered at the earliest and respond witÂhin 10 days if he would like to proceed with the kidnapping case against Reshma's family.
