Thane: The crime branch of Thane police on Wednesday claimed to have foiled an attempt by a couple to sell three girls.
DCP Parag Manere said the girls, aged 7 years, 6 years and 5 years, were rescued by a team led by senior inspector Niteen Thackeray by raiding a house in Galegaon of Ambivili. Shabulan Rammurti Mali and his wife Anjalina Jyoti Sabulin Mali were arrested.
The accused, who ran a trust, procured children mostly from red light area and sold them to childless couples for about Rs 1 lakh, police said.
The rescued girls were sent to a child shelter home. Further probe is on.
