Unit VIII of Mumbai Crime Branch has filed a chargesheet against the lone accused in the murder case of software engineer Esther Anuhya.

The chargesheet recommends that a fast track court should view the case and asks that Raja Thakare be appointed as Special Public Prosecutor. The Crime Branch presented the 542 page-chargesheet before the 37th Killa court on Monday.

"We have reports of DNA samples, documental evidences and 76 witnesses who have identified the accused in the identification parades, CCTV footage report, panchnama of the victim's bag that was later found, as well as the victim's ID card, which was found with the accused," said Sadanand Date, joint commissioner of police, Mumbai Crime Branch.

Anuhya worked with TCS and lived in Andheri. She had gone home to meet her family for Christmas in Machilipa-tnam on Dec 22. She landed in Mumbai on January 5 at LTT, after which she went missing. Esther's family members found her charred remains on January 16 from the bushes near Tata Nagar Colony in Bhandup (East).

Over 50 days after her disappearance, cops nabbed the accused Chandraban Sanap, a former porter at LTT, with the help of CCTV footage from the terminus. Cops have the statement of Sanap's friend, who says that Sanap confessed the crime to him.
