The construction of the northbound arm of the Kherwadi Junction flyover has begun and will be completed by April 2015. The the southbound arm of the Kherwadi flyover was opened for traffic in June this year.
"The 580-meter Northbound stretch will be completed by April 2015. While the Southbound arm was completed in 225 days, we aim to finish the Northbound lane as scheduled." Said MMRDA Joint Project Director Dilip Kawatkar
The advantage in case of this arm is that the precast concrete girders for four out of the five spans have already been casted at the Wadala casting yard. This arm comprises of a total of 25 precast girders; out of which 20 girders are ready. The span at the junction is the biggest one and these girders for this span will have to be casted at the project site.
Traffic on the Western Express Highway has already been diverted to the 600-meter stretch on the service road on the west side of the Highway.
Besides, the traffic police will be keeping one lane of the southbound arm open for northbound traffic during peak hours.
The 580 meter long Northbound arm is identical to the Southbound arm with three lanes and is set to clear traffic congestion at the Kherwadi junction once completed.
