Mumbaikars looking for the perfect romantic getaway at no cost and also lovers of the 'perfect' selfie are disregarding police warnings to throng Marine Drive promenade during high tide and creating a headache for authorities

The monsoon has truly and sincerely arrived in Mumbai. And with it has come the high tides crashing into the tripods at south Mumbai's Marine Drive promenade.

The depiction of monsoon in Hindi films, especially of the hero and heroine enjoying themselves at Marine Drive as high tide drenches them has made this the perfect place for romance in the monsoon!

And young couples every year arrive in throngs to enjoy the rains at the promenade.

Surf and spray as huge waves crash into the rocks near them are kind of an aphrodisiac that pulls these couples to these vantage points -- some of the others being Bandra Bandstand and Worli Sea Face.

Even as the pre-monsoon hit the city shores the couple had started gathering at these locations. And it's going to be more crowded as the days go by.

Even police warnings of the dangers of being swept away by the waves or being thrown by them don't stop these people in love. After all, one of the things that define Mumbai is walking near the sea in the rains and waiting for the high tide to hit you and then going home soaked to the bone.

And the new-found love for selfies has added another dangerous dimension to this craze. People, looking for that perfect selfie, pose in the most dangerous of locations. And what is more perfect than recreating the iconic Bollywood image of being drenched by a wave or spray? And the fact that it's life-threatening only adds excitement to the experience for these enthusiasts and headache for the authorities and Mumbai police.

Even in April 2016, a couple was clicked getting cosy at Mumbai's iconic Bandra Bandstand unmindful of huge waves crashing into rocks near them and people staring. Even prospect of superstar Salman Khan looking on didn't bother them.
