After textbooks of Std IX of the state board underwent an overhaul, it is time for Std X books to get a makeover in the coming academic year. But, instead of being excited about the new textbooks, students and teachers are worried that the books may not reach the market in time. Their fears are based on the longest ever delay in the arrival of Std IX textbook in the last academic year. This week, the teachers met with authorities to air their concerns.
Last year, students and teachers had to wait until August to get the new textbooks for Std IX. Needless to say, it caused major academic loss to students. Teachers worry about a repeat for Std X, which would be disastrous as it is their board examination and preparations start even before the start of the academic year.
Anil Bornare, from Shikshak Parishad, who has raised the concern, said, "After Std IX textbooks were changed last year, it automatically became the turn of Std X textbooks this year. After we pointed out our concerns, the authorities have assured us that the books will be made available by April. We hope that the government is able to deliver on its promise." Sunil Magar, director of Balbharati, remained unavailable for comment.
