"Bhujbal was brought in with dull chest pain and breathlessness. He had high blood pressure and his blood sugar level was around 380. That's why we decided to keep him in the ICU," said Dr Rohan Sequeira, head of medicine.

"We immediately performed a full body check-up and even checked the cardiac enzymes. The reports will be out soon. His BP is under control now. He was administered medication for breathlessness using an atomiser. He should get well in two to three days," he added.

Others bothered
Following Bhujbal's admission to the hospital, the facility was converted into fortress.

This affected the free movement of the other in-house patients and their relatives and those wanting to enter the hospital.

Voicing her dissent, Asiya Khan, who was waiting to enter the ICU to visit her pregnant daughter, said, "My daughter is in the ICU; she is six months pregnant. But I am not being allowed to spend time with her. They let us inside the ICU for just 2-3 minutes before pushing us out. I don't know what is happening."

Under scanner
Bhujbal is under the Enforcement Directorate (ED) scanner for alleged irregularities in awarding contracts during his tenure as the PWD minister. He also has charges of misappropriation of wealth against him. Bhujbal and his nephew Sameer - accused of money laundering - have been remanded to judicial custody till April 23.
