A day after he was arrested for the murder of 36-year-old widow Kanta Shetty, the accused Prabhakar Shetty told police officials that he had planned to commit suicide the day after chopping his victim's body into four pieces. However, unable to take his own life by allowing a train to run over him, he returned home.
The accused has been booked under section 302 (murder) and 201 (Causing disappearance of evidence of offence, or giving false information to screen offender) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The accused will remain in police custody till November 13.
Senior police inspector Prahlad Panaskar from Chembur police station said, "Since the time of the murder, he was very upset and wished to commit suicide. But he got scared and returned home." According to the police, Kanta Shetty, the victim, was murdered after she allegedly pestered the accused Prabhakar to marry her.
The police said that they have formed several teams to recover the missing limbs and the weapon used to commit the murder. According to police officials, Shetty confessed that he had dumped the arms along with the legs near Cheetah Camp at Trombay. Prabhakar also claimed that he had wrapped the weapon with the victim's clothes and dumped it at Acharya Colony. The weapon is yet to be recovered.u00a0
