Canadian passenger tests negative for swine flu

A 21-year-old passenger from Canada who was placed under isolation at Kasturba Hospital on suspicion of having contracted H1N1 (Swine Flu) viral infection has been declared negative, according to Maharashtra Directorate of Health Services.

A resident of Vadodara in Gujarat, the female passenger disembarked at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport on Thursday. Her throat sawbs were sent to National Institute of Virology(NIV), Pune and "we have received the report from NIV and is negative for H1N1 infection," Dr U H Gavande, Deputy Director of Health Services said on Friday.

When asked when she will be discharged, he said since the results are negative, she will discharged anytime. Health officials in the airport have so far screened 1,25,609 passengers for the H1N1 virus in the past 20 days, Gavande said.

Meanwhile, patients attending the Central government hospital services were drastically affected due to posting of several doctors in the airport for screening the international passengers.

One of the patients in South Mumbai working for Auditor's General office said many patients have to return home after reaching CGHS without getting medical assistance.
