In a what has come as sunshine in the dreary lives of the beleaguered residents of Mumbai's Campa Cola Society, the Supreme Court on Friday allowed them to approach the Maharashtra government and municipal body to seek relief.

With the political scenario in the state having changed drastically lately, the residents are hopeful that the new BJP government would support them and stop their houses from being demolished.

The residents had approached the apex court to seek clarification on whether the State and BMC could be approached or not. The Court has given them a go-ahead to discuss the regularisation of the their unauthorised flats that face demolition with all the authorities. The resident are even more hopeful since the authorities, who have been approached, have given positive signs.

The residents are optimistic since the political support by the new government has been a key to moving things forward and also beause the coatition is in power in the BMC.

One of the residents, on request of anonymity, said, "It is the political support of the ruling party that will now get things done for us more faster as the BMC, which till last year claimed that it had no options available, has nodded for finding legal options in the court."

Ankit Garg, one of the residents of Campa Cola compound, said, "We are yet to approach the CM as we are yet to study the order and get the written order in hand. Once that is done, further discussions will start with the State and BMC."

Talking on this issue, Chief Minister, Devendra Fadanavis said, "Will do whatever is legal and what the Court said was best on the submission, the State Government made."
