Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has ordered the director general of police (DGP) to take strict action against the cops from Nallasopara police station for neglecting their duty in registering a rape case involving a minor.

mid-day had reported on December 2 that a 16-year-old rape survivor had gone along with a social worker, Sunila Bhise, to Nallasopara police station to register the case. The police officer refused to register the case and asked her if she had had sexual relations with any other man.

"Take back your case or he will kill you," he also warned her, citing the accused's criminal past. The case was eventually registered the next day. On that very day, a 12-year-old girl, who had been allegedly raped by her neighbour, had gone to register the rape case.

A police officer at the station allegedly demanded money to record her statement on video. After the report was published, the CM wrote on Twitter: "Told DGP for strictest action against the police officers who are found guilty of neglect of duty in Nalasopara Case".

Meanwhile, the public relations officer of the Palghar district police released a press note stating that no police officer asked any such alleged questions or gave warnings to the survivor.

It stated that the officers did their work honestly, in front of the social worker and the survivor's parents. It also stated that police had recorded the 12-year-old child's video statement in the second case.
