As the Central Bureau of Investigation took over the investigation into the 2012 murder, sources from the Khar police said the transfer of the probe would end up affecting the case adversely
The Sheena Bora murder investigation will now be led by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which took over the case from the Khar police on Tuesday.

A separate team from the agency will also probe the alleged negligence shown by the Raigad police in the case. Sources in Mumbai Police, however, expressed dissatisfaction over the case being handed over to the CBI, suggesting this was yet another upheaval that would end up affecting the case adversely.
The department has already registered the FIR which names Sheena's mother Indrani Mukerjea, her driver Shyam Rai and ex-husband Sanjeev Khanna as the prime accused. Over the next few days, CBI officers will visit Khar police station to familiarise themselves with the case. An official from the agency will be appointed as the new investigating officer (IO) in the case.
A police officer from Khar police station, however, said, "This will hamper the case, and might even result in the accused getting away. We want the culprits to get maximum punishment for the crime. The case was already affected when the Commissioner was transferred, as he was personally overseeing the case.
Now the case itself has been transferred. The first thing the CBI will do is to translate all the documents; the FIR, punchnama, statements, etc. from Marathi to English, as all the papers will have to be sent to top officials in New Delhi. This itself will take at least 15 days."
He added, "Secondly, the CBI will also have to understand the case and become familiar with the details, as they will have to present it in court."
