The Mumbai Police yesterday served a notice to the MNS under Section 149 of the CrPC (to prevent cognisable offences) for its threat against Pakistani artistes.
The notice, signed by senior Mahim police inspector Milind Indekar, was addressed to Amey Khopkar, head of MNS' Chitrapat Karmachari Sena.
Shalini Thackeray, MNS vice-president and wife of party chief Raj Thackeray, and Khopkar, had on Friday threatened to attack Pakistani artistes, beginning today, if they failed to leave the country by then.
Immediately after the threat, the Mumbai Police issued a statement saying it will protect all foreign nationals staying in the country with proper documents. Mumbai Police spokesperson Ashok Dudhe could not be reached for a comment.
Sources said the notice was issued to warn MNS of stern action if it indulges in "illegal acts".
