A woman head constable had accused him of making indecent remarks and outraging her modesty under the influence of alcohol; cousin says he has proof to prove him innocent

The body of a constable, Vinod Kashinath Pardhi, was found at the Panju area near Vasai sea shore on Sunday morning. Police said the 30-year-old might have committed suicide. He had been suspended after a female constable complained against him, and was missing since February 5.

According to the police, Pardhi had been suspended on January 25, after the female constable registered a complaint against him for indecent remarks and outraging her modesty under the influence of alcohol on December 6, 2015. The Vasai police had registered a case against Pardhi under Sections 509 (insulting the modesty of a woman), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 504 (intentional insult), 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC. Sources said the 2010-batch constable was suspended after a departmental inquiry by the Palghar District Superintendent of Police Sharda Raut.

Pardhi was missing since February 5. His family had registered a missing complaint at Vasai police station the next day.

Pardhi's cousin Harish Pawar said, "Vinod was in depression since two months. He was heading home after a 36-hour duty when the head constable told him to report for duty somewhere, after which there was an argument between the two. After this the woman registered the complaint." Pawar claimed the complaint of the woman head constable about Pardhi outraging her modesty under the influence of alcohol was totally fake. He also claimed there was no inquiry and a superior officer had suspended his cousin despite that, due to which he was in depression.

Pawar also said that he has documents and mobile recordings that Pardhi gave him, which would prove him innocent. "Vinod had got this job after a lot of hard work. After Vinod's death, his parents, wife and kids, and mentally unstable 22-year-old brother are in shock," added Pawar. "We have registered an Accidental Death Report. The body has been sent for postmortem," said an official from Vasai police station.
