Commuters and motorists who face a harrowing time every day while travelling from Western Express Highway to Andheri West finally have some reason to rejoice. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will construct a new flyover between NS Phadke Marg Junction and Telli Galli in Andheri (east) to ease traffic congestion. According to sources from the Bridge department, the civic body has already made a proposal of building the flyover at an estimated cost of R80 crore. It will take around a year to construct this 570-metre long flyover.
The decision comes in the wake of several demands made by citizens and local corporator, Manisha Panchal, who demanded this flyover should be built. The BMC made the proposal last month and it will be soon tabled in the standing committee for approval.
Over the last seven years, locals from the area have demanded that a flyover be built to ease traffic congestion and prevent accidents that are a common occurrence when motorists travel from east to west through the GK Gokhale Flyover. The new project will connect the stretch from Regency Hotel (Telli Gali) near Western Express Highway to Gokhale Flyover. Panchal, who had put forth the proposal of the flyover's construction, said, "Once this flyover is ready motorists who use the Western Express Highway to go to Andheri West will be able to go directly to Gokhale Flyover. The risk of accident and traffic chaos will almost get eliminated."
When contacted, Chief Engineer Bridge Department, SA Kori said, "Once this project is completed it will reduce the travelling time for commuters going from east to west."
