With an aim to provide supplementary nutritious food to students of civic schools, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to add dry fruits and protein-rich snack bars to the regular menu, which at present includes only khichdi. As part of the budget announced on Friday, the civic body mentioned that it would spend Rs 27.38 crore for the purpose. Of the total money, Rs 25 crore has been allotted for the primary section and Rs 2.38 crore for the secondary.
Pad vending machines at schools
At present, 159 civic schools have a total of 172 sanitary napkin vending machines for Stds VIII to X. The BMC has proposed that in the coming year, another 381 machines would be installed for students of Stds VI to VIII at 345 schools. A total of R2.5 crore has been allocated for the purpose.
Football coaching
The civic body also plans to launch an ambitious programme - Road to Germany - through which students of civic schools would be given football training on the lines of the coaching provided in Germany. Thereafter, the best players might also get a chance to go to Germany for further training. This would be done in collaboration with the Football Club of India and Mumbai District Football Next Foundation.
