After the arrest of the deputy commissioner of sales tax for demanding and accepting bribe, the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) found that the accused, Ramesh Bhagoji Jaid owns five flats, four shops, has partnerships in two companies, one car and a bike.
Director general of police, ACB, Praveen Dixit said, "We carried out house searches and found information about flats in the name of his daughter, wife, brother and nephew."
Jaid was arrested for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 5 lakh.
He had demanded Rs 20 lakh from the owner of a firm, who was facing a notice for sales tax dues of Rs 98 lakh. A sales tax consultant Archis Uday Visaria was also arrested at Dombivli Gymkhana while accepting the first instalment of Rs 5 lakh on Jaid's behalf. Jaid is in police custody till May 5.
