In Some relief for motorists, who are forced to negotiate pothole-ridden roads in the city, the BMC has proposed resurfacing of around 150 roads in the western suburbs. The civic body will be spending a total of Rs 63 crore on the resurfacing project, and the work is expected to be complete in the next seven months. The proposal will be tabled in the Standing Committee for final approval today.

According to the proposal, the BMC will resurface 33 roads in Andheri, Versova, Goregaon, Malad. Apart from this, it will also be resurfacing 113 roads in Kandivli, Borivli and Dahisar. "These roads do not need reconstruction, as they have minor issues like potholes, bad patches and washed out surfaces. Hence, we have asked contractors to resurface these roads with asphalt," said a senior civic official.

The contractors will be given a seven-month deadline. "We are hoping to start work before monsoon. These road repairs are part of civic body's priority list-3," the official said. BMC's priority list-3 includes roads that are not in very bad condition, but need resurfacing. Under priority list-3, the civic body is taking up resurfacing of 93.98 kilometres of road across the city, which also includes repairs of 53 junctions.
