Major Bisht with his parents
On Saturday afternoon, an Indian Army Major was killed while he was in the process of defusing an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) placed close to the Line of Control at Nowshera sector of Rajouri district in J&K. A soldier, who was injured in the blast, has been admitted in a hospital
in Udhampur.
Major Chirtesh Bisht (31) was to go on leave from Sunday to his hometown in Dehradun, where he would have got married on March 7. He had got engaged just six months ago.
According to a close family friend, who received a call from Major Bisht two days ago, said, "He invited us and was keen that we attend the wedding. He was also keen to inquire about married couple accommodation availability in Pune, as he was to take up ECC course there and wanted to come with his wife on March 13."
"My husband and I had made a lot of plans to make this stay of Major Bisht with us the most memorable one, but destiny had something else stored," said the friend. She added, "Major Bisht fiance was always keen to learn more about the army life and the life of an Army officer."
When asked about the perpetrators who might have left the IED near LOC, Vikas Manhas, a local resident from J&K said, "Usually during this period (winter) there is a lot of snowfall, which makes it easy for the extremist to walk over the LOC fencing, which at times due to power failure is non functional. Also, the rivers passing through the LOC get almost frozen and the water levels also reduces drastically making it easier for anyone to walk over, especially during the late night hours, and they manage to skip the security forces attention."
