The 23-year-old has been stalking the newly married woman for over a month, making phone calls and sending her messages asking her to divorce her husband and marry him instead
An army jawan has been stalking a 22-year-old woman for the last one month, harassing her with hundreds of phone calls and several messages after learning that she got married. Harbouring a desire to marry her, he unleashed a barrage of harassing calls on the woman, who then registered a case with the Charkop police.
According to the police, the accused has been identified as Anand Gavde (23), a Kandivli resident who is a jawan in the Indian Army. He met the victim, an employee in a private firm, almost a year ago through a common friend.

Police officials said, "Gavde and the victim met each other through their common friend one year ago, when Gavde came to Mumbai on holiday for a month. The duo struck up a friendship then." However, the woman only considered him a friend at the most.
Gavde then went back to his posting in J&K. However, a month ago, when he learnt from Facebook that his friend had gotten married, he started harassing her, calling her as many as 150 times. He would also send her messages, asking her to divorce her husband and get married to him.
Senior Inspector Anand Koli of Charkop police station said, "Gavde copied photos of the victim from Facebook. Using photo-editing software, he inserted a mangalsutra in the picture and posted it on his Facebook account. He used to call her every day around 150 times."
Gavde last called her on Monday, after which the victim told her family and registered the case with the police on Tuesday. A police source added, "When the Charkop police contacted Gavde, he threatened them, saying he was in the Indian Army and nobody could touch him." Koli informed that Gavde had been booked under Section 354D (stalking) of the IPC and sections 66A and 66B of the IT Act.
