Teachers belonging to Maharashtra Permanently Unaided Schools Association on Wednesday threatened to boycott the assessment of state board examination papers if their demands were not met.
The association, which has around 500 Higher Secondary Teachers under its umbrella, began their agitation at the Azad Maidan in south Mumbai on Wednesday to fulfill their long pending demands. Around 60 teachers belonging to the associaiton have already returned answer papers they received for assessment.
Prashan Redij, President of the Association, said, "We were assured grants by the state government in the recent Nagpur session when we approached the minister with our demands. However, there is no progress on it. Few teachers have already returned answer papers and other will soon follow."
Meanwhile, the state board has assured the students and told them not to panic as it is prepared for all such situations.
Gangadhar Mamhane, chairman of Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education, said, "We have already instructed divisional office especially of state Board to continue assessment without fails. If few teachers are denying, they are instructed to find more teachers to assess the papers. Result will not be delayed."
