After a month-long hunt for the man who harassed a 24-year-old woman in the Metro on August 4, the police have arrested the accused from Ghatkopar.

According to the police officials, Sayyad Rizwan Latif Shah (24), a resident of Chirag Nagar in Ghatkopar, was with his friends in his locality on August 28, when he was noticed by two patrolling constables.

The woman who had been harassed had clicked a photo of the accused and the constables, who had seen the photograph, had the feeling that they had seen him somewhere.

Sub-Inspector P V Pardi from Ghatkopar police station said, "Shah was with his friends and was noticed by two patrolling constables. After they saw him, they found something suspicious about him and began questioning him."
The constables realised that Shah was wanted in the Metro molestation case and that they had come across his photograph in this paper. He was taken to the police station and arrested immediately.
"The accused was arrested on August 28 and, during his questioning, it was revealed that he is a resident of Chirag Nagar and lives with his parents. On the day of the incident, he was going to his relatives' place in Malad and had another relative accompanying him. His family claims that he is mentally unstable and that is why he keeps staring at people."
Shah has been booked under Sections 354A (sexual harassment) and 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal Code. He was remanded in judicial custody and was bailed out yesterday for a bond of Rs 10,000.
