8 new Omicron cases detected, Maharashtra’s count reaches 48

Eight more Omicron cases have been detected in the state, a report released by the National Institute of Virology said on Friday. Out of these patients, 6 are from Pune, 1 from Mumbai and another patient is from Kalyan-Dombivali.

The Mumbai patient, a 29-year-old man who travelled from Newark on December 9, is admitted to SevenHills as a precautionary measure, said a BMC Health official. "The patient has taken three doses of Pfizer Covid vaccine. His two high-risk contacts tested negative," said the official. BMC health report said the city has so far seen 15 Omicron patients of which 13 have been discharged.

All the patients are men in the age group of 29-45. While one patient has mild symptoms, rest are asymptomatic, said state officials. While two patients are in hospital, the rest are under home isolation. Barring the new cases, 40 Omicron patients had been reported in the state - Mumbai-14, Pimpri Chinchwad-10, Pune (rural)-6, Pune Municipal Corporation-2, Kalyan Dombivali-2, Osmanabad-2, Latur -1, Buldhana-1, Nagpur-1, and Vasai Virar-1.
