On International Women's Day yesterday, the D B Marg police rescued a 16-year-old girl from a south Mumbai brothel.
A social activist with the help of DB Marg police officials rescue Pooja (centre) from a brothel near Kennedy Bridge, Opera House, last night
Pooja (16, name changed), who is believed to be a native of West Bengal or Bangladesh, was rescued from the Rajni Mahal building near Kennedy Bridge in Opera House around 10.30 pm.
Rahab, a city-based NGO, tipped-off Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone II) Anil Kumbhare that three minors had been sold at a brothel in Rajni Mahal and the DCP immediately sent men from the D B Marg police to rescue them.
Well-known social worker Shyam Kamble, Rahab member Manohar Vaghela and another woman accompanied the police.

The one-and-a-half-hour search led to the team finding Pooja.
"The girl does not know Hindi or any other local language so it will be difficult to interrogate her. She was sold to the brothel owner last week," said a policeman.
