2006 blast victim recounts nightmare

Ashwin Boricha (35), art director at Infomedia 18 Ltd, had boarded the ill-fated 5:37 pm train to Borivli on July 11, 2006, minutes before a blast ripped through its first class compartment at Jogeshwari.

Ever since, his life has become an endless series of medical procedures, to treat a slew of medical problems cropping up from injuries sustained in the blast, including a damaged cornea, burst eardrums, and innumerable burns. "It has been a hellish journey.

Ever since the blast, I have been hearing an incessant ringing sound. I also suffer from double hearing," he says.

Boricha has incurred a bill of over Rs 4 lakh just for medical expenses. The state only compensated him with Rs 54,000.

"I took care of all the paper work for monetary compensation, going through the mandatory red tape. Eventually, I just gave up."
