A watchman who was convicted of murdering lawyer Pallavi Purkayastha in 2012 and jumped parole over 18 months ago was finally arrested by Mumbai police. Here's all you need to know about the gruesome case

The crime occurred when convict Sajjad Ahmed Abdul Aziz Mogul alias Pathan, who worked as a watchman in Purkayastha's building, tripped her electricity metre deliberately that night. She then called an electrician, who Sajjad accompanied to her house

While the appeals were pending, he was lodged in Nashik Central Jail from where he applied for parole of 30 days which was granted in February 2016

However, Sajjad Mogul jumped parole in 2016 and did not return even after the 30-day period was over. Mughal was granted parole from Feb 29 to March 23 to see his ailing mother in Kashmir. He was allowed to leave the jail after divisional commissioner granted him parole, but he never visited her in Kashmir. His disappearance went unnoticed by any of the government agencies for months

With his help, Mogul managed to get employed with UGF Security Agency and started working as a guard at Atlantic Complex near Sagar City. He'd identified himself as Imran Shaikh from Srinagar to get the job for Rs 10,000 a month

Since the case was originally handled by the Mumbai Police, Padsalgikar ordered the Crime Branch to set up its own team to trace down Moghul and finally zeroed in on him and after one year, he was arrested.
