A visually impaired girl from Daund, Pune kept the government railway police (GRP) on their toes for around a week by registering a false gang-rape complaint at Malad Railway station after she got three months pregnant. A 22-year-old resident of Daund, had last week, filed a complaint with the Pune police that she was raped by two men at Malad railway station three months ago. The investigations were transferred to Borivli GRP.
The probe has revealed that the victim never came to Malad station and tried to mislead the police by cooking up a false story to abort the child. According to the police sources, it has been revealed she is three months pregnant and unmarried. She narrated the same story to the doctor, after which, the hospital authority informed the Daund police in Pune.
As per the statement given to the police by the victim, three months ago she was gang-raped at the Malad railway station by two persons when she missed the last local train. She slept on platform number 2 and waited for the early morning train.

Considering the matter seriously, the Pune police immediately registered the case under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including gang rape. The case was transferred to the Borivli GRP for further investigation as the victim revealed the incident had happened under the Borivli GRP's jurisdiction.
On January 26, Borivli Railway Police started the investigation and several teams were formed under senior police inspector Anil Kadam. "We inspected platform number two of Malad railway station and found that it is always crowded. So there can be no incidents of sexual harassment," said an officer.
"The victim had revealed in her statement that she came to Malad from Ulhas Nagar and wanted to go to Latur. However, there is no direct train from Ulhasnagar to Malad and no direct train goes to Latur from Malad station. We got suspicious and to verify the fact a team was sent to Pune for the investigation," the officer added. Through the call data record of her mobile phone, we found that the victim never came to Malad station in the last year. It was also learned that the woman had given the wrong mobile number to the Daund police, he added.
Further probe revealed that the victim had a love affair with a visually impaired man in Daund and had gotten pregnant. Due to the fear of being stigmatized in society for getting pregnant without wedlock, she created a false story, said an officer. She sold headphones in the train used to travel to various cities in Maharashtra including Ahmednagar, Osmanabad, Latur, Khed. "We have interrogated the victim's boyfriend and recorded his statement. We have submitted a complete investigation report to the superiors and documents related to the crime have been handed over to Daund police for further investigation," the officer added.
