Police in Navi Mumbai has apprehended two individuals suspected of involvement in 12 cases of house-breaking and theft. The authorities successfully captured the accused as they were attempting to flee to West Bengal. Stolen items, including gold jewelry valued at Rs 12.16 lakh, were recovered from them, a police official confirmed on Sunday.

With assistance from the railway police, Navi Mumbai police managed to intercept the suspects, who were on board the Geetanjali Express at Wardha station on July 21, the official stated. The individuals arrested have been identified as Haider Anarul Sheikh and Yusuf Noor Islam Sheikh.

Both individuals have cases registered against them at various police stations including CBD, Turbhe, Koparkhairne, Panvel town, NRI Sagri, Rabale, Rabale MIDC, and Wadala railway police stations, according to the official. The duo is believed to be connected to a series of house-breaking and theft incidents, totaling 12 in number.

This arrest follows a separate incident in Navi Mumbai where a case was registered against four members of a family for allegedly verbally abusing and assaulting two women over a minor disagreement.

A case under relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code and Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act was registered at Kharghar police station on Saturday for the alleged assault on a 27-year-old woman and her mother-in-law, sub-inspector Dyanoba Dulgande said.

The victims and the accused live in the same residential building in Kharghar, he said.

The accused, including a couple and their two children, quarreled with the victim over a petty issue and verbally abused her and beat her up, the official said.

When the woman's mother-in-law intervened, she too was thrashed by them, he said, adding that no arrests have been made in the case and a probe is underway.
