Three held for vehicle thefts in Mumbai's Borivali; 10 stolen bikes recovered

The Mumbai police have arrested three persons involved in vehicle thefts. The police also recovered 10 stolen motorcycles from their possession. Based on a tip-off, the police recently apprehended the two accused from Borivali, Mumbai, while the third man was nabbed on February 22, PTI reported.

The thieves allegedly stole two-wheelers and used fake number plates on them. The accused, Milind Manohar Sawant (29), Yash Deepak Kothari (24) and Arvind Rajan Gadkari (28), already have multiple cases registered against them, the official said.

As per PTI report, the police have recovered 10 stolen motorcycles, worth Rs 5.3 lakh from the accused, who are booked under section 379 (theft) of the Indian Penal Code.

Meanwhile, in a chit fund fraud in Maharashtra, a case has been registered against a man for allegedly duping investors of Rs 2.8 crore in a chit fund scheme in Nagpur district, police said on Sunday. The accused, Ramneet Singh alias Saab Rajinderpal Singh Lamba (34), a resident of Kashmiri Gali, is absconding, reported PTI.

The accused had allegedly duped people by promising them lucrative returns if they invested money every week in a chit fund scheme. The victims invested in the scheme from 2019 to 2022 and handed over the money to the accused, who provided them signed receipts, PTI reported quoting an official.

A case has been registered under sections 420 (cheating), 406 (criminal breach of trust) and other relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code and Prize Chits and Money Circulation Schemes (Banning) Act, 1978, the official said.

In another case's development by Nagpur police, junior colleague held for allegedly killing an employee of an IT consulting services company has told the police that he was enraged after his senior commented about his performance at work.

The victim, identified as L Devanathan Lakshminarasimhan (21), was working as an assistant manager with Hexaware Technologies in MIHAN (Multi-Modal International Cargo Hub and Airport at Nagpur) for the last ten months, the Nagpur police said.
