Police has arrested a 34-year-old man in Thane's Bhiwandi on Saturday for allegedly killing a person for misbehaving with his daughter.

On February 22, Bilal Shamsuddin Ansari allegedly beat up Omprakash Pal (46), who later died, Inspector Pramod Kumbhar of Narpoli police station told PTI.

"Our probe has found Ansari assaulted Pal for allegedly misbehaving with his daughter. Further probe is underway," Kumbhar added.

Meanwhile, police in Maharashtra's Thane district Saturday arrested a 21-year-old man, who was among six persons booked for allegedly abetting the suicide of a college student, an official said.

The police are now on the lookout for the other five, who are the classmates of the victim, said inspector Pramod Babar of Murbad police station.

The six persons are accused of stripping the 17-year-old college student, taking his nude pictures and harassing him at a farmhouse in Umroli village on February 21.

The victim apparently had sent an Instagram message to the girlfriend of one of the accused, annoying him, the official said. "Even while harassing him, the accused showed him the Instagram message," he said. The boy ended his life the next day by jumping into a well in Umroli village.

A note recovered from his mobile phone detailed his harassment and the reason behind his suicide, the official said. The police then registered a case against the six accused on Saturday. While the farm owner has been arrested, the police are looking for the other five, he said.

In a separate incident, Police has arrested four persons for allegedly running a prostitution racket from a Navi Mumbai lodge and rescued three women from there, an official said on Saturday.

The Anti Human Trafficking Cell (AHTC) of Navi Mumbai raided the premises of Raj Inn Lodging and Boarding at Shiravane in the Nerul area on Thursday after sending a decoy customer.

They arrested three agents and the manager of the lodge and rescued three women who had been pushed into the illicit trade. The women have been moved to a shelter, he said.

Senior inspector Prithviraj Ghorpade of the AHTC said the agents interacted with potential clients through a weblink and WhatsApp and shared photos of women for selection. Clients were then instructed to book accommodations at the lodge, where the women would be made available to them.

The Turbhe police have registered a case under the Indian Penal Code for human trafficking and the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act and are looking for the owner of the lodge, he added. (With inputs from agencies)
