The Ulhasnagar police have booked a house help for allegedly stealing from former MLA Pappu Kalani's elder brother.

According to the complainant, the accused, Krishnakanat Fulpardhi, 40, made off with Rs5 lakh in cash and jewellery worth Rs1.25 lakh.

Fulpardhi is absconding and dedicated teams have been dispatched to track him down.

According to the complaint filed by 80-year-old Narayan Kalani, Fulpardhi was working at the complainant's residence, Kalani Mahal, at Ulhasnagar Camp Number 2.

During an inquiry, Kalani learnt that Fulpardhi to whom he would give money to pay Goods and Services Tax had transferred Rs40.97 lakh into his own account.

An FIR was registered against the accused on September 29 at the Central police station. After this, Kalani found that cash and jewellery had also gone missing from his bedroom. "The complainant found out that two gold rings weighing 10 grams each and a 30-gram gold bracelet, as well as cash, were missing," said an official from the Ulhasnagar police station.

Another case was registered against the accused, at the Ulhasnagar police station, on October 11 under Section 381 of the IPC, which deals with theft by clerk or servant.

"Only Fulpardhi, apart from family members, had access to their bedroom, hence they suspect he committed the theft," the officer said.

"The accused is from Hyderabad and had been working at the home for five years. He had won the trust of the complainant and had access to keys and would handle financial transactions. Both police stations are working jointly to nab him," said Dilip Fulpagare, senior inspector of the Ulhasnagar police station.
