A woman's body was recovered from the base of Malang Fort in Ambernath.
According to the police official, the body of a woman, aged around 25, with a strangulation mark around the neck was found near a nullah in the bushes around 6 pm on Friday.
A police official of Hill Line police station said, "Some passersby spotted the body and alerted the police. The identity of the deceased woman is yet to be established and she seems to be aged between 25 and 30 years."
"A case of murder was registered and investigation is being carried out," the official said.
Meanwhile, in a similar incident earlier this week, the body of a 70-year-old senior citizen was found in a lake in Thane on Thursday.
According to the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) official, the body was found in Railadevi lake located in Wagle Estate in Thane, around 8.15 am.
Chief of Thane civic body's disaster management cell Yasin Tadvi said, "The deceased, identified as Arvind Murudkar, was a resident of Mulund."
"After being alerted, fire brigade personnel and a team of disaster management cell rushed to the spot and took the body out of water," he said.
According to the police, the body was then sent to a government-run hospital for post-mortem and a case of accidental death was registered.
