A 30-year-old man has been booked and arrested for allegedly setting the Mira Road Shanti Park police beat post on fire on May 2.

According to the police sources, the accused was angry with the police action against him. He came to the Shanti Park police post (which comes under the Mira Road police station jurisdiction) in the evening at around 7.42 and took out petrol from the police patrolling bike which was parked in front of the post. He sprinkled the petrol on the door and tried to set it on fire.

The people present near the police post saw this and they caught the accused and reported the incident to the fire brigade. The fire brigade reached the spot and extinguished the fire, said an officer.

Constable Nursingh Ghubde from the Mira Road police station rushed to the spot along with other staff after receiving the information. The accused has been identified as Sunny Sadanand Kadam, a resident of Bhayandar (East) who lives with his parents and family.

"Kadam has been booked and arrested under section 435 (Mischief by fire or explosive substance with intent to cause damage), 506 (Punishment for criminal intimidation), and section 3 of The Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act, 1984 (who commits mischief by doing any act in respect of any public property)," said senior inspector Vijaysinh Bagal, Mira Road police station.
