Tanzanian woman arrested for drug trafficking

The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has arrested a 30-year-old Tanzanian woman from Delhi for allegedly being part of a drug syndicate. The officials of the law enforcement agency were led to the woman following the arrest of a drug peddler Gilmore Andy, 25 on November 9. Andy had been arrested from Hotel Ibis, Vile Parle, with 2 kg cocaine.

In the NCB custody, Andy revealed to the NCB that he is a habitual offender and was involved in drug trafficking for a long time. He told the officials that he peddled drugs in India and abroad. He had revealed that the cocaine in his possession was meant to be shipped to Delhi and delivered to a woman identified as Rehman Mboneram, 30. A team of officers had reached Delhi on October 10 and had arrested the lady based on Gilmore's confession.

"Rehman Mboneram, a Tanzanian national who is presently residing in New Delhi was involved in the conspiracy of procurement, transportation, sale and purchase and import of drugs to India," the remand application by the NCB stated. The NCB stated in its remand application while seeking seven days custody of the accused.

According to the remand application the accused had accepted that she was involved in the drug trafficking. She and her associate had been booked under the relevant sections of the NDPS Act. The Esplanade Court granted Rehman Mboneram NCB custody till November 17.
