The Kandivali police arrested a man who escaped with Rs 3.4 lakh cash from a sweet shop where he was working in.
The accused, identified as Rohit Manoj Mishra, was working as a salesman in the Jain sweet shop located near Kandivali west railway station. According to police sources, Mishra was one among the fifty employees working at the shop.
Mishra, who was working at the shop for almost five years, had built trust with the shop owner. Placing trust in Mishra, on December 27, the shop owner asked Mishra to deposit the daily cash amount in the bank. He was handed over Rs 3.4 lakh cash to deposit in the Eco Bank, Dahanukar Wadi Branch in Kandivali West.
When Mishra did not return for a long time, Jain tried calling him multiple times, but his mobile number was found blocked.

After enquiring at the bank, the shop owner found that money was not deposited in his account. Convinced that Mishra had escaped with the money, he approached the police station and registered a complaint against Mishra, an officer from the Kandivali police station said.
The police launched a hunt to locate Mishra by setting up two teams in Uttar Pradesh and in Madhya Pradesh. PSI Suryakanth Pawar got information that Mishra was hiding in his future father-in-law's house. Following this, the police reached the spot and arrested Mishra.
"During the interrogation, Mishra the police that he had stolen the money to get married and build a house in his village. We have seized Rs 1.5 lakh from him," the official added.
