The BEST bus stop at Everard Nagar, near Chunabhatti, where the accident took place
A minor who ran over and killed two pedestrians, while allegedly trying to learn to drive, near Everard Nagar BEST bus stop on Monday and the adult who was in the car with him fled from the spot, parked the car in another area and tried to cover it. The minor was produced before the Juvenile Justice Board and has been sent to Dongri children's remand home while the adult aboard the vehicle is in police custody.
The accident occurred around 8 am on Monday when the minor, a Std XII student, was out to learn how to drive from Shlok Shelar, the other accused. Shelar allegedly let the teen drive while returning when the minor, driving at a speed of over 100 km per hour, lost control and ran over four pedestrians.
Babasaheb Kale, 55, a contractual security guard, and another person died while others sustained injuries to their heads and hands.
"An auto driver named Dutta Mohite told the cops that the car was silver in colour and headed towards Shivsrushti Colony. Our cops and traffic cops from Chunabhatti division then started a search operation," said Inspector Rajendra Gaikwad.

He added that another team found the registration number of the vehicle from CCTV footage and learnt that the owner was from Pune. However, cops were unable to contact him as his phone was not reachable.
Meanwhile, traffic cops Anil Kalawale and Sachin Zinje found the car in Shivsrushti Colony. "A shopkeeper told our men that two boys came in a silver car, parked it and covered it with the sheet from another car and ran away. It was the same car seen in the CCTV footage," said Deepak Bagul, in-charge, Chunabhatti Traffic division. Following this, cops nabbed the two including Shelar, who is the relative of the vehicle owner.
