The police have arrested two persons in connection with the murder of a 57-year-old woman whose body was found abandoned on a field in Maharashtra's Palghar district, an official said on Saturday, reported news agency PTI.

The police on Thursday apprehended Saphala residents Rajesh Bijire Sonar (21) and Karan Man Singh (30) for the murder, which took place in June, while another accused involved in the crime is absconding, said Balaseheb Patil, district superintendent of police Palghar Rural, reported PTI.

Padma Bahadursingh Bik was found strangled to death on a field in the district on June 6. The Saphala police registered an offence under sections 302 (murder), 397 (robbery) and other relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code and began the probe, he said, reported PTI.

Based on intelligence and technical inputs, the police zeroed in on the accused, who had allegedly robbed the woman of her jewellery and killed her, the official said, reported PTI.

In another incident, the decomposed body of a 29-year-old woman was found in a shut room in a housing colony in Nalasopara in Palghar district on Friday, a police official said, reported PTI.

The body of Saptashila Sawant was found in a pool of blood on the floor after neighbours alerted police about a foul smell coming from the room, the official added, reported PTI.

"Her throat was slit and one of her legs was broken. We have registered a murder case and efforts are on to nab the culprits," the Tulinj police station official said, reported PTI.

She was in a live-in relationship and was staying in the room on rent since February, he added, reported PTI.

Meanwhile, a 21-year-old woman was killed allegedly by her husband in Nagpur, a police official said on Thursday, reported PTI.

The incident took place in Bori village, some 50 kilometres from the district headquarters, the Ramtek police station official said, reported PTI.

"Divya Yadav had married Chhotulal Yadav two months ago. The couple had fights since Chhotulal was in a relationship with another woman with whom he used to have long telephonic conversations," he said, reported PTI.

"On October, Chhotulal strangled Divya in a desolate area. Her body was discovered on October 21. A probe led to the arrest of Chhotulal," he added, reported PTI.
